How Mail-In Appraisals Work

Step 1: Get in Touch First

Call, text, or email me with a few overview photos of what you have. I’ll let you know if it makes sense to mail it in and the best way to ship it.

Please don’t mail anything before we talk.

Step 2: Pack and Ship

Once we’ve talked, pack your coins and ship them to my PO Box with tracking. Text or email me the tracking number when it’s on the way.

Step 3: I Review and Call You

When your package arrives, I’ll look everything over promptly and call you. I’ll explain what you have and what drives its value, and give you a no-obligation offer.

Step 4: You Decide

If you accept, I’ll send your payment by check. If you decide not to sell, I’ll ship everything back to you.

Packing Checklist

  • A list of what’s inside. A simple list of the items, with your name, address, and phone number. Keep a copy for yourself.
  • Photos before you seal it. Take a few pictures of your coins and the packed box for your own records.
  • A copy of your ID. A photo of your driver’s license or other ID, texted or emailed to me, is fine.
  • Pack it snug. Leave coins in their holders, albums, or flips, and fill empty space so nothing shifts or rattles.
  • Keep the outside plain. Don’t write “coins,” “gold,” or “silver” anywhere on the box.
  • Tracking is required. USPS is preferred. We’ll talk about the best way to ship before you send anything, including whether insurance makes sense for what you’re mailing.

Mail-In Questions

Q: Is everything worth mailing?

A: Not always. Modern pocket change, state quarters, and modern error coins that haven’t been graded usually aren’t worth the trip through the mail. That’s why I ask for photos first. If you’re not sure, just ask.

Q: Can I ship with UPS or FedEx?

A: USPS is preferred. If you’d like to use UPS or FedEx, contact me first and I’ll give you the right shipping address.

Q: Why do you need a copy of my ID?

A: It lets me keep a record of who I’m working with, which protects both of us.

Q: Do I need to sort my collection or take coins out of their holders?

A: No to both. Leave coins in their original albums, flips, or cases. It protects them, and the holders sometimes have useful information on them.
